The Eldorado Area Water and Sanitation District (EAWSD) is a publicly owned water district in Northern New Mexico, serving just under serving just under 3,000 households and commercial properties. EAWSD is located in a semi-rural area of rolling hills, about 10 miles East of Santa Fe, New Mexico, among juniper and pinon trees near the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Several mountains and mountain ranges can be seen from most properties almost anytime of the year.
EAWSD was created in 1997 in an election by property owners of the District for the purpose of providing the residents of the District a voice in their water future. This is one of many special districts in the state and is considered a quasi-municipal entity. Oversight of the District's budget is provided by the New Mexico Department of Finance and Administration.
